Rosemere Manor Testimonials
The healthy lifestyle enjoyed in the Lakefield community is truly an attraction for those who move to the area or have chosen to live here for decades. Centrally located in the County of Peterborough, one hour north of the Greater Toronto Area, our community of Lakefield is surrounded by beautiful lakes, rivers, beaches and parks.
The many attractions and services offered in the Township of Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield and beyond in the County and City of Peterborough, provide for the recreational, cultural and service needs of all ages, but particularly for seniors.
The numerous walking trails, recreational programs, clubs and cultural events, mean there is always a new experience to enjoy and a sense of fellowship to be found. Friendly business owners provide excellent service and make shopping a pleasure in a heritage downtown district. A wonderful new community healthcare centre has recently opened in Lakefield, with doctors accepting new patients. Lakefield has become a destination. A place to stay healthy and happy during retirement, with all the amenities one would need.

Mary Smith - Deputy Reeve of the Township of Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield,

Rosemere Manor must be unique among retirement homes in this part of Ontario. First opened by the County of Peterborough in 1907 as a refuge for the indigent, the Manor has had over a hundred years of chequered experience as a residence. The quality of design and construction is immediately evident to the visitor; the many large windows, the spacious halls and common rooms, the quality of the paneled doors, the window sills, the staircases, all speak of an era of building that has long gone by. The building was built by the Baptie Brothers of nearby Lakefield and it is a monument to their skill and thoroughness. It is difficult to define, but, in my experience, the age and quality of this venerable building have an effect on its residents.
There is a certain grandness about living at Rosemere. Set in many acres of prime farm land and reached by an avenue lined with old trees, the Manor strikes the visitor as a private estate. It has been renovated and brought up-to-date by many loving hands, principally by Bruce and Phyllis Black, who bought it from the County and gave it the name “Rosemere” after their home in Quebec. Their work was taken up and improved by Richard McCarthey and by the present owners; and, today, Rosemere offers the prospective resident an enticing prospect.
